OSHC –CDO celebrates first anniversary

A year of service to workers has proven that having an Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) branch in Cagayan de Oro has indeed strengthened the culture of safety and health in Minadanao.

The OSHC-CDO was established on October 29, 2009 to bring occupational safety and health OSH services closer to workers and establishments in Mindanao and in response to the clamor of the Occupational Safety and Health Network (OSHNET 10) for a more permanent OSHC presence in the region.

Working closely with stakeholders, the OSHC-CDO branch has hosted meetings with the Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc., Association of Safety Practitioners in the Philippines, Inc, Department Of Labor and Employment Regional Offices, Regional OSHNETs, Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Offices and other organizations for planning and implementing OSH programs and activities. To date, OSHC-CDO branch has facilitated the conduct of 15 types of training with 24 batches and 1,007 participants, benefitting 622 companies. The branch has also conducted inspections, work environment measurements and other technical services for establishments in Mindanao.

Various information dissemination activities such as information caravans, a poster making contest for workers and media campaigns have been held on several occasions.

The OSHC-CDO is set to reveal its upcoming plans and programs during its anniversary celebration which will include the details of the 3rd Mindanao OSH summit to be held on November 25-26, 2010.
