DOLE-OSHC REU XIII trains indigent and displaced workers on construction safety for free

Vefacio Bed and Breakfast, Butuan City - A total of 56 displaced OFWs and indigent workers are being trained for free by the Occupational Safety and Health Center Regional Extension Unit (OSHC-REU) XIII on the Construction Safety and Health (COSH) Training today, January 23, 2017.
The participants expressed their gratitude because the training will enable them to land jobs as safety officer in construction companies. “Malaking tulong po ito sa amin sa paghahanap naming ng trabaho,” said one of the displaced OFWs.
The COSH Training which will run until January 27, 2017 aims to train would-be safety officers in implementing workplace safety and health program in accordance with the DOLE Department Order No. 13: Guidelines on Occupational Safety and health in the Construction Industry. It is one of the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH or COSH Training, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift.
The said training was also graced by DOLE Caraga Agusan del Norte Provincial Head, Mr. Hermie Daytoc during the opening ceremony.
