Why Radio Dramas?

The SWS survey in 2002 showed that 89% of Philippine households listen to the radio for news and entertainment. The same survey showed that 89% of rural residents and 86% of urban dwellers rely on radio for news and entertainment. Thus, using radio to advocate safety and health is a less expensive and more cost-effective medium than television.

Birth of Sa Palad ng Buhay

Hoping to reach a wider audience, the OSHC produced and aired 30-minute radio dramas in 2001. Veteran radio personality Nick De Guzman of DZRH directed the radio dramas. Scriptwriters for the dramas were Gina Marissa Tagasa and Tina Agustin. Some of the more prominent radio drama actors who played in Sa Palad ng Buhay were Tony Carreon, Luz Fernandez, among others. To capture the attention of listeners, Sa Palad ng Buhay followed this format:

15 minutes : drama proper
5 minutes : radio plugs on work safety and health
10 minutes : interview with resource persons

These radio dramas were aired since January 2003 over Radyo Veritas; Saturdays; 4:30-5:00 p.m.
